THE PROJECT

EPS batteries inside Diamond's eDA40 training aircraft
EPS batteries inside Diamond's eDA40 training aircraft

Electric Power Systems (EPS), in North Logan, Utah, makes lithium battery systems for aircraft. Its engineers designed a lightweight battery case that keeps a fire contained inside it. The batteries are built in modules, so the same design fits many aircraft, and EPS makes them in its own plant. That let EPS deliver batteries ready for flight when few aviation battery makers could. EPS's leadership decided where the company was going. Since 2021, KAIA has helped them say it clearly and tell it to customers, investors and the rest of the market. We've done that on EPS's website, in search results, in video, in print, at trade shows, on a wrapped truck EPS takes to airfields and air shows, and on social media.

  • 4 investment rounds EPS's leadership has raised since 2021
  • 19.2% more visits to EPS's website after our search program
  • 7 channels carrying the same story

THE CHALLENGE

A growing aerospace company has to win over customers and investors at the same time. Both make up their minds from what they see and hear about the company. EPS's biggest achievement, a battery case that contains a fire, was the part buyers were least likely to hear about. The website, the presentations and the trade show booth each described the company a little differently. And in 2022, the company that built the battery pack for NASA's X-57 experimental airplane didn't appear in the top 50 search results for any of the general terms its buyers searched.

SEVEN RESULTS THAT BRAND AND COMMUNICATIONS DELIVER

  1. Be seen as the leader of your market — We built one story on what EPS had achieved that no other battery maker had, and carried it from the website and video to the trade show floor.
  2. Earn investor confidence — We helped with EPS's investor presentations while EPS's leadership raised four investment rounds.
  3. Be found by buyers who are looking — Our search program moved EPS from outside the top 50 to first or second in most of the searches we tracked.
  4. Show buyers you can deliver — We made a brochure about safety and support, and ten short videos filmed in EPS's plant.
  5. Launch a new product to your market — For the launch of EPS's EPiC 2.0 battery, we told one story the same way in the film, the press release, the booth and the website.
  6. Win backing for a concept before it is built — For Aircapture, we made an animation that shows a process no camera can film.
  7. Enter a new market as an established supplier — For EPS's move into defense, we built a section of its website for defense buyers, beside the pages for its commercial customers.

THE SOLUTION

SOLUTION: BE SEEN AS THE LEADER OF YOUR MARKET

Your company has done something no one else in your field has done. But customers and investors decide which companies to take seriously from what they see and hear. If your website, your presentations, your booth and your people each describe the company differently, the market can't tell what sets you apart. Gallup found that only 41% of employees strongly agree that they know what their company stands for and what makes it different. When employees can't say it, customers usually can't either.

Good brand communications start from your core truth: what your company has achieved that no one else has. When every piece is built on it, the market sees one company and a clear reason to choose it.

HOW KAIA DOES IT

DEFINE THE CORE TRUTH WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP

We work with the people who set the company's direction and the engineers who know what the product can do.

BUILD EVERY PIECE ON IT

The website, the video, the brochure and the booth all start from the same statement.

TAKE IT WHERE YOUR MARKET LOOKS

That includes trade shows, the trade press, search and social media.

EPS's truck, wrapped by KAIA

Many of the first electric aircraft to fly did it on EPS batteries, including NASA's X-57 and Diamond's eDA40 training aircraft. But EPS's website, presentations and booth each told that story a little differently.

The result — 1 line. "Upward Mobility" ran from EPS's identity video to its brochure to its website. In 2025, EPS opened a new page on its website using a line from that video.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE STARTED FROM LEADERSHIP'S OWN WORDS

EPS's leaders told us what made the company different: a battery that could contain a fire, light enough to fly, built in modules in EPS's own plant. We built every piece on that.

WE LED WITH THE CUSTOMERS WHO ALREADY TRUSTED EPS

The website opened with the aircraft flying or in development with EPS batteries, from NASA's X-57 to Bell's Nexus air taxi.

WE PUT THE COMPANY'S DIRECTION INTO ONE LINE

We wrote EPS's identity video around the company's own vision, and it ended on "Power Upward Mobility." That line then appeared in the brochure and at the top of the website.

WE TOOK THE STORY TO WHERE AEROSPACE BUYERS MEET SUPPLIERS

That meant a trade show backdrop, a magazine ad, the wrapped truck, and 3D images showing EPS batteries inside Diamond's eDA40 and SkyDrive's air taxi.

A company's story should be built around its core truth: what it has achieved that no one else has.

SOLUTION: EARN INVESTOR CONFIDENCE

You need investors to back the next stage of your company. An investor considering your next round reads your presentation, then checks your website, your press coverage and your social posts, and listens to how your team talks about the company. If those say different things, the investor has a reason to doubt the rest.

When your investor presentation tells the same story as everything your customers see, investors meet the same company your customers already trust.

WHY IT PAYS

INVESTORS CHECK YOUR STORY AGAINST EVERYTHING ELSE

The presentation is only one of the places they look.

IN AEROSPACE, INVESTORS ARE OFTEN CUSTOMERS

Boeing invested in EPS and also bought its battery packs.

EPS had already raised money from Boeing HorizonX, Safran and AE Industrial Partners before we started working together, and its leadership kept raising money as the company grew. AE Industrial Partners describes EPS on its website as "the market leader in electric power solutions for the aerospace mobility market." That is an investor's description of EPS, not an endorsement of KAIA.

The result — 4 rounds. EPS's leadership has raised four investment rounds since 2021: $13 million with JetBlue Technology Ventures, announced April 1, 2022; an extension led by AEI HorizonX and an investment from United Airlines Ventures, both in 2023; and $29 million in April 2025. EPS has raised $64.5 million in total, according to PitchBook.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE HELPED WITH EPS'S INVESTOR PRESENTATIONS

We built the visuals for its investor presentations on the same story as its customer materials, so investors and customers met one company.

WE SHOWED ONE MODULE FITTING MANY AIRCRAFT

We made an animated video showing the same EPS battery module fitting 13 different aircraft, and an infographic explaining that every aircraft needs batteries, whether it is conventional, hybrid or fully electric.

Your customers and your investors should meet the same company.

SOLUTION: BE FOUND BY BUYERS WHO ARE LOOKING

Your buyers are searching for what you make. If your company doesn't appear in those searches, they find a competitor first, even if you lead your field. Business buyers still start with search: in a 2026 survey of 1,202 US business decision-makers by Reddit and SurveyMonkey, 57% said they use search engines early in their research, more than any other source.

A search program makes sure the buyers already looking for what you make find your company.

HOW KAIA DOES IT

LEARN HOW YOUR BUYERS SEARCH

We find the words they type when they look for what you make.

FIX WHAT KEEPS YOUR SITE FROM RANKING

We fix the technical problems that hold the site back.

EARN MENTIONS FROM RESPECTED SOURCES

Other sites pointing to yours tell search engines your company matters.

From the 2022 search report: who visited the site, from which countries and on what devices

In May 2022, the company that built the battery pack for NASA's X-57 didn't appear in the top 50 search results for any of the general terms its buyers searched.

The result — Top 2. By August 2022, EPS appeared first or second in most of the searches we tracked. Visits to the website were up 19.2%, and the site's technical health score rose from 67% to 92%.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE FOUND THE WORDS EPS'S BUYERS SEARCHED

We learned what buyers typed when they looked for aircraft batteries.

WE FIXED THE WEBSITE

We fixed its technical problems, which raised its health score from 67% to 92%.

WE MADE SURE EPS WAS FOUND BY NAME

Buyers searching for EPS by name found it first.

WE RECOMMENDED OUTSIDE MENTIONS AND REPORTED EVERY MONTH

We recommended that EPS work to get mentioned by respected outside sources, and we reported the results every month.

The work your engineers are proudest of is often the part buyers never hear about.

SOLUTION: SHOW BUYERS YOU CAN DELIVER

Customers buying parts for an aircraft ask two questions before they commit: is it safe, and will you be there to support it? Investors ask their own version: can this company deliver what it promises?

The strongest answer is what you're already building and shipping. When buyers can see your plant, your people and your hardware, they don't have to take your word for it.

WHY IT PAYS

SAFETY AND SUPPORT DECIDE THE SALE

Showing both answers the buyer's first two questions.

THE INDUSTRY HAS SEEN FAILURES

Volocopter filed for insolvency in December 2024 and Lilium in February 2025. A company that can show what it's already shipping stands apart.

The brochure, updated to show the flight hardware EPS was shipping

EPS had its own plant, a team building batteries, and flight hardware it was already shipping, ahead of almost every other aviation battery maker.

The result — 10 videos. We made ten short videos filmed in EPS's plant, with the people who work there, and updated the brochure to show the flight hardware EPS was shipping.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE ANSWERED CUSTOMERS' FIRST TWO QUESTIONS

We built EPS's brochure, "Powering the Future of Electric Flight," around the fire protection designed into every module and the lifetime support behind it.

WE SHOWED WHAT EPS WAS SHIPPING

When EPS began shipping flight hardware, we updated the brochure to show it.

WE SHOWED THE PLANT AND ITS PEOPLE

We made ten short social media videos from footage of EPS's plant and its people. Each was built around one line, such as "Hard work and innovation go into every EPS product."

When a market is full of promises, the strongest answer is what you already build and ship.

SOLUTION: LAUNCH A NEW PRODUCT TO YOUR MARKET

You've built a better product, and you want customers, partners and investors to see it as the next step forward.

A launch has to say why the product is better, and say it the same way in the film, the press release, the booth and the website.

HOW KAIA DOES IT

  • Define how the product leads its field before anything is made.
  • Tell one story in every piece of the launch.
  • Reach the trade press before the show, so the news is out when buyers arrive.

Another EPS project: the EPiC 2.0 launch.

The result — 4 publications. The press release went out on Business Wire before the show and was picked up by Urban Air Mobility News, General Aviation News, Utah Business and AOPA.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE MADE THE LAUNCH MATERIALS

EPS launched its EPiC 2.0 battery at AERO Friedrichshafen, a European aviation trade show, in 2024. KAIA made the launch film, the press release, the social media posts, the website updates and the brochure for the booth.

WE BUILT ONE LAUNCH STORY

We helped EPS describe the product around how long it lets an aircraft fly, then built the story from interviews with EPS's team and footage from its plant.

SOLUTION: WIN BACKING FOR A CONCEPT BEFORE IT IS BUILT

You need executives, partners or investors to back an idea that isn't built yet, or a technology that works where no one can see it.

People back what they understand. Film and images made from your engineering can show what it does and why it matters.

HOW KAIA DOES IT

  • Start from your engineering, so every image is accurate.
  • Show what no camera can film, inside the product and down to the smallest scale.
  • Show why it matters to the people deciding.
Inside the Aircapture unit, from the animation
Inside the Aircapture unit, from the animation

The result — repeat client. Another KAIA project, Aircapture, came back to KAIA to design its investor presentation.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE LEARNED THE PROCESS

Aircapture, in Berkeley, California, pulls CO2 out of the air and supplies it to commercial and industrial customers. Its patented Lightswing process uses microwave energy to release the CO2 it has captured. That happens inside the unit, at the scale of molecules, so there was nothing to film.

WE ANIMATED IT

KAIA made a 3D animation that takes the viewer from the outside of the unit down to the molecules, and shows the microwaves breaking the bond that holds the CO2.

SOLUTION: ENTER A NEW MARKET AS AN ESTABLISHED SUPPLIER

You want to sell to a new market, and you can't afford to confuse the customers you already have.

The new market needs to hear its own language, and your current customers need to keep hearing theirs.

HOW KAIA DOES IT

  • Research how the new market talks about what it needs.
  • Give the new market its own message, written for its buyers.
  • Keep your current customers' message as it is, on the same website.
EPS battery pods for defense
EPS battery pods for defense

The result — 1 website. Defense buyers and commercial customers each find their own message on the same website. The defense section went live in April 2025.

WHAT KAIA DID

WE RESEARCHED HOW DEFENSE BUYERS TALK

When EPS decided to sell to the defense market, KAIA worked with EPS's leadership to research how defense buyers describe what they need.

WE BUILT A SECTION FOR DEFENSE BUYERS

We built a section of EPS's website for defense buyers, organized by the kinds of missions they run, beside the pages for EPS's commercial customers. We also made a brochure that serves both markets, and social media posts.

THE OUTCOME

EPS's leadership set the direction, built the batteries and raised the money. KAIA is proud to have helped tell the story along the way.

You've solved the hard problem. Your market should trust you with the next one.
